HBCU Week in Chicago –

HBCUs will be honored and celebrated with special events and celebrations in the sports world during the week leading up to Labor Day! The activities will be in full effect, from the Cubs celebrating HBCUs to ‘The Classic’ Chicago Classic Football Game!

HBCU Week Activities

Tuesday, August 29th: 

The Chicago Cubs will celebrate their HBCU day. 

According to the Cubs, “We are celebrating HBCUs and the diversity of our city on Tuesday, August 29 with a ballpark celebration featuring special entertainment, live music, and on-field HBCU recognitions. Most importantly, we have an HBCU Day Special Ticket Offer – which includes a ticket to the Cubs-Brewers game at Wrigley Field and a special-edition Cubs HBCU jersey. Chicago Classic Greek Stepshow 

The Step Show is an opportunity for Black Greek Letter Organizations through the National Pan-Hellenic Council Chicago (NPHC-C) to show their pride and unity through competition of strolling and/or stepping within their respective Fraternity or Sororities.  See HERE for more information and to purchase tickets.

Saturday, September 2, 2023: 

Several events are planned at Soldier Field on this day,  to include The Chicago Football Classic!

The Chicago Football Classic is a tradition unlike any other.  After a 4-year hiatus, the tradition returns to Soldier Field on Sept 2nd.  Mississippi Valley State and Central State will mark the 25th anniversary of this HBCU football event. The game kicks off at 3:00 pm. Click HERE for tickets and additional information! 

Other significant events on this day include:

  • HBCU College & Career Fair (Free Event):  8:00 – 11:45 am
  •  Teen Fest – A Youth Empowerment Gathering (Free Event): 8:00 – 11:45 am
  • Tailgating – Adler Planetarium Parking Lot.  Must purchase game ticket. 11:00 – 3:00 pm
  • Battle of the Hight School Bands (Free Event): 12:00 – 2:00 pm
  • Vendor Marketplace – Supporting Black Businesses:  1:00 pm – End of the Game
  • Divine 9 Greek Row – Pre-game Greek Reunion:  1:00 pm  – End of the Game
