April is National Brunch Month!

When you wake up late for breakfast, but it’s too soon for lunch, only one thing will satisfy – – BRUNCH! That ‘in-between’ meal that almost is not complete without bottomless mimosas to accompany the meal.

April celebrates National Brunch Month – along with the food, the history, and those we celebrate it with!

About Brunch…

A surprise to few, the word brunch is a blend of breakfast and lunch – in word and in concept.

According to The Smithsonian, some food historians think that the meal has its roots in England’s pre-hunt breakfasts — lavish multi-course meals that featured a smorgasbord of goodies such as chicken livers, eggs, meats, bacon, fresh fruit and sweets. A good sweet and savory mix of dishes.

Others say that Sunday brunch derives from the practice of Catholics fasting before mass and then sitting down for a large midday meal.

And then there are those who look to New York’s abundance of dining spots when it comes to tracing the origins of classic brunch dishes from eggs Benedict to bagels and lox.

What’s On the Menu?

There are some foods that are essential and common to a great brunch spread.

  • Waffles/Pancakes/Blitzes
  • Biscuits and Gravy
  • Casseroles and quiches
  • Muffins, breads, coffee cakes, and donuts
