Southwest Ending Flights at ORD and IAD

Southwest Airlines will end flights at Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Washington Dulles (IAD) starting June 4, 2026. As part of Southwest Airlines ending services, travelers in both major markets will be impacted.

Therefore, passengers with flights after this date will need to adjust or rebook their travel plans.

What Travelers Should Know

Southwest Airlines says travelers with flights through Chicago O’Hare or Washington Dulles on or after June 4, 2026 have several options. In the meantime, flights scheduled before June 3 will still operate as normal.

After that, passengers can rebook or travel standby within 14 days without additional cost using nearby airports.

Alternate Airports

Travelers originally booked through Chicago O’Hare (ORD) may rebook flights through:

• Chicago Midway (MDW)

• Milwaukee (MKE)

• Indianapolis (IND)

Passengers traveling through Washington Dulles (IAD) may rebook through:

• Washington Reagan (DCA)

• Baltimore/Washington (BWI)

• Philadelphia (PHL)

• Richmond (RIC)

Customers can request a full refund, including non-refundable tickets and add-ons like priority boarding or upgraded seating.

Most changes can be made online or in the Southwest app. Vacation package customers must contact customer service.

As a result of Southwest Airlines ending services, the removal of flights from these major airports will require travelers to adjust their plans—especially those who frequently fly in and out of Chicago or the Washington, D.C. area.
