That’s right, it’s National Ice Cream Sandwich Day! August 2nd of every year is its’ observance. Originally, it was made popular by a street vendor in New York city. The idea was to “sandwich” ice cream between milk biscuits. As a result, the treat became popular on push carts all around the city and country. It sold for one penny in 1900.
In 1945, Jerry Newberg came along with the newer version, selling them at Forbes Field. Also, alternatives are used to “sandwich” the ice cream. Some are chocolate cookies, oatmeal cookies or a even rice crispy wafers. Lastly, the treat is so popular that it goes by other names. Such as, Monaco Bar, Giant Sandwich, Maxibon, Cream Between, Vanilla Slice and many more.
